Working on your Vocabulary

Vocabulary is the most important ingredient when you are working on your English. Any person can win an argument if he/ she knows a wide variety of vocabulary and it simply puts you ahead of other people. Listen to the speeches of successful people and listen to the vocab they use. It is paramount to work on your vocabulary if you are working for Business. Vocabulary is used in Marketing, dealing with the clients globally and one should always work on improvising it. We will be sharing some tips and tricks that will help you get started in this article.

Vocabulary can also be divided into 2 categories -

  1. Active Vocabulary - Words that are used daily
  2. Passive Vocabulary - Words that you understand but do not use day-to-day.
There are different terms we go through when learning English -

  1. Adjectives
  2. Adverbs
  3. Verbs
  4. Gerunds -
  5. Articles
  6. Pronouns-
  7. Nouns-
  8. Conjunctions
  9. Prepositions
What are these? Well, we will explain each of it with examples

Adjectives
Adjectives are used to describe nouns.  It is used to describe a person, an object or a place. For example - Pretty, Beautiful, slow and ugly.

Adverbs
Adverbs tell us how we 'do' the verb. For example - Slowly, Quickly, Magnificently.

Verbs
Verbs are action words. For example - Play, Talk, Run, Read etc.

Synonyms
Words that can replace another word. For example, a synonym of happy can be cheerful, glad, merry, pleased.

Phrase
for example, Happy ever after

Vocabulary that can be used

  • I am keen on Chinese food and basketball.
  • I am fascinated by mountains.
  • A sharp/ steady increase in share market.
  • A slight fall in rates of the commodity.
Few of the vocabulary which defines your state of behaviour -

  • Relaxed - calm and not worried
  • Confused - unable to understand
  • Confident - certain about your abilities
  • Excited - very happy and enthusiastic
  • Frustrated- Feeling annoyed and impatient
  • Curious - Wanting to find about something
  • Hostile - behaving in an unfriendly and threatening way
Rule - Never use 'The' before a country.

Vocabulary for the friendly theme - I was going through some of the excellent vocabularies that can be used to describe a place.


  • The People of New Zealand are welcoming and inviting. They are really warm and are easily approachable anytime for anything. Their president is really polite, attentive and thoughtful. I saw one of her speech for the people of New Zealand and she demonstrated excellent leadership skills in her thoughtful speech. New Zealand is a superb place with a great atmosphere. It makes you feel like a home. We went into one of the famous restaurants and the service was excellent. We spent a beautiful unforgettable evening there and one can ask nothing much than that.
Vocabulary used for Arts -
Personal level - Art give us inspiration, it enriches our lives and captures our imagination.
Cultural level - heritage, national level and connection to the past
Economy - Art brings tourism to our country which boosts employment and economy, It attracts visitors and tourism at a global level.
